It had never occurred to me until a group of us found ourselves talking at the dinner table one night and the subject of today's kids came up. Seems that no matter where we go today, the absence of children playing outdoors seems quite prevalent. In this communication riddled age, most kids seem to prefer sitting in front of the television, either taking in their favorite programs or with a controller in hand attempting to master that favorite game
My memory of my childhood features countless hours playing outside, either riding my bike or partaking in some sort of pickup sporting event. Many times my friends and I would meet at the local playground where we would enjoy the pool, swings, and baseball games as well. There just was never a shortage of things to do. Any video games we may have had were primitive at best when compared to the ones of today's modern era.
Those in my generation can thank our parents for making it happen. Playing outside; it was just what kids were supposed to do; part of the growing up process, I guess.
